Mailo - Teething Problems?

My use of Mailo actually started because I was seeking an alternative to my Google Calendar.

A few months ago, I had exported all my calendars/events from Google Calendar to Zoho Calendar.

All seemed well, but I discovered that when I tried to search a calendar for a series of older events from previous years - Zoho reported no results!

Now, I knew for a fact (and did subsequently check to confirm) that these old events were searchable in Google Calendar - I found these events going back to 2019.

I hadn't used Mailo before, so I decided to see how their calendars stacked up against Google.

I imported the same calendar from Google into Mailo, and did the same search for the same event that the Zoho Calendar didn't find.

Result? Success! The Mailo Calendar had listed all the older events.

Initially, I was pleased with Mailo - the calendar appeared to be working, with CalDAV easily set up to my mobile phone. The same with setting up the email and the WebDAV.

Until . . .

I had some upcoming calendar events that I wanted reminders for - I set up both email and notifications. On the first event reminder (an all-day event) I set the reminders to 1 hour before the event (2300 hrs). The day of the event, and switched on my mobile phone, the notification 'pinged' - but no email? The following day, a similar event with similar reminders - got the 'ping', didn't get an email!

But . . .

Surprise, surprise! For this event, I received the email at 1100 hrs on the day - some 12 hours late. Of course, some would say 'your time zone is wrong' but when I first set up the account I corrected the time zone and checked it just now to confirm.

Without that email arriving on time, it seemed that the Mailo Calendar just would not cut it for me.

Another problem occurred with emails. I had 2 legitimate emails rejected by Mailo - the subject: 'Mailo Free's security system has refused a message'.

Maybe the problems with both the calendar reminders and also the rejected emails could be teething problems - I'll wait and see.

But for now, it's back to Google Calendar!
